What is EALS?

The Emerging Arts Leaders Symposium is held each spring at American University, giving students and young professionals who work in the arts an opportunity to engage in dynamic discussion with peers and experienced leaders in the field about the issues, unique or universal, that affect arts organizations.

 

When is the Symposium?

The 2024 Emerging Arts Leaders Symposium will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Registration begins at 8:00 AM and the event ends at 7:00 PM. View the full schedule here.

Will there be lunch at the Symposium? 

Yes! Lunch tickets are available to purchase via Eventbrite. You can add a lunch option to your cart when purchasing your event ticket. We highlighly recommend purchasing in advance. There will be vegetarian,  vegan, gluten free, dairy free, and nut free options available. Lunch tickets are $10 until 3/9/2024 and $15 if purchased by 3/22/2024. Lunch tickets will be $20 on the day of the event.

What should I wear?

Attendees wear business casual, jeans, and everything in between! Ultimately, please dress however you're most comfortable.

What are the Mask Policy and Vaccination Requirements?

Masks are optional.  If a member of our community asks others to mask when in close contact with one another, please treat these requests with respect and give them full consideration. 

​

How can I get to the Symposium?

Parking: The Katzen Arts Center is located on Massachusetts Avenue NW across from the main campus. When you arrive at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue NW and Glover Gate, turn into the Katzen Parking garage and follow the signs to level P2. Parking is free on weekends and after 5:00 pm on weekdays in the Katzen's underground garage (metered 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays).

 

Metro & AU Shuttle Bus: Take the red line metro, towards Shady Grove, to Tenleytown-AU. From the Tenleytown/AU Metrorail red line east exit (escalator or elevator), simply walk straight ahead 100 feet to the bus stops at the corner of Albemarle and 40th Streets. The AU shuttle runs on regular intervals and is free of charge.

 

Metrobus:

  • N4 and N6 pass the Katzen on Massachusetts Ave.

  • M4 and N2 pass the Katzen on Nebraska Ave. at Ward Circle

In general, staying in the neighborhoods of Tenleytown, Chevy Chase, Georgetown, or Dupont Circle will keep in close proximity of the Symposium. 

 

I'm going alone, will it be easy to network with people there?

Yes! There will be both formal and informal ways to get to know the other attendees. EALS welcomes guests from across the country and is a great chance to meet new friends and colleagues.
